North Meadows Extension Groundbreaking in Castle Rock

Tuesday, October 29

9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Castle View High School

5254 N. Meadows Drive

Castle Rock, CO 80109

Ready, set, start!

The Town and its partners for years have been getting ready for Castle Rock's largest-ever roadway project, the North Meadows Extension. And all of this year, we've been set to begin construction, while awaiting some final approvals.

Now, we are excited to startmoving dirt and relocating utilities near Castle View High School (shown in yellow on the map), to continue the path toward completing the Town's No. 1 transportation priority. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Oct. 29.

The new road will extend from near the school to U.S. Highway 85 and Interstate 25, improving traffic conditions in northern Castle Rock. The groundbreaking is the first step in building what literally is a long road, which is expected to open to traffic near the end of 2015.

Dirt hauling begins for North

Dirt hauling begins for North Meadows Extension

After a groundbreaking ceremony in late October, crews wasted no time getting to work on the Town’s No. 1 transportation priority, the North Meadows Extension.

With much of the site clearing complete, crews will now begin hauling dirt from the Castle Rock Adventist Hospital site to the North Meadows Extension site, near Castle View High School. This work will mean increased traffic along Meadows Boulevard and Meadows Drive.

Hauling will begin on Monday, Dec. 16, and is expected to last 3 months. Six trucks will be involved and will haul loads between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with some Saturday work possible.

In sum, it is expected the trucks will make more than 15,000 round trips to complete the work. The material will be used as the embankment for the roadway up to the future bridge over the BNSF Railway line. In addition, new storm drains are being installed and early utility relocations are underway. This work is for the first phase of the project, near the high school.

Safety is a top priority for all involved with this project. With the start of construction, the Town and general contractor Edward Kraemer & Sons Inc. closed a section of sidewalk near the back of the high school as a safety precaution. This closure will remain in place throughout construction.

The North Meadows Extension will connect The Meadows to U.S. Highway 85 and Interstate 25. The new road will extend from where North Meadows Drive currently ends near Castle View High School, and then will intersect with U.S. 85 where Castlegate Drive currently runs and then connect with I-25 about 1 mile north of the Founders/Meadows Parkway interchange.

As this important project moves ahead quickly, the Town and Edward Kraemer & Sons will work diligently to inform the public. Still, this project is a top priority and the goal is to complete the project accurately and in a timely manner, so notice and work may occur simultaneously.
